Therapeutic massage is an umbrella term that refers to a type of massage therapy that focuses on treating specific issues in the body, rather than just providing temporary relief or focusing on relaxation or stress relief. The term encompasses a diverse group of advanced massage therapy modalities, such as deep tissue, sports massage, medical massage, oncology, prenatal, reflexology, trigger point, myofascial release, craniosacral massage, and so much more.

To put it simply, Deep Tissue massage is always considered Therapeutic massage, but Therapeutic massage is not always Deep Tissue. There are many different types of techniques that are considered “therapeutic” in nature, and “Deep Tissue” is only one of these. “Relaxation” massage is simply Swedish massage designed to increase blood flow and circulation in the body and helps decrease stress and general tension. It is not designed to fix any causes of chronic pain, and this is not a common service that we perform (most of our clients want pain relief!)

Our prices are regularly priced at $100/hour for Relaxation (Swedish) Massage, $120/hour for Therapeutic Massage (a blend of modalities according to what the therapist believes is best for your body needs), and $150/hour for Advanced Modalities (such as Deep Tissue, Sports Massage, Reflexology, Myofascial Release, Oncology, Prenatal, Lymphatic Drainage, etc). These are our standard hourly rates for the various different services that we offer, and this price does not include gratuity.

In order to provide advanced therapeutic massage modalities like Trigger Point, Myofascial Release, Oncology, Prenatal, Reflexology, Sports Massage, Medical Massage, Craniosacral, IASTM, Cupping, etc, massage therapists have to pursue advanced training far beyond the original costs of our programs to get our foundational training to become LMTs. These courses are often very time consuming and hundreds or thousands of dollars to pursue! In order to help an LMT recover the costs of those trainings and generate income from dedicating the extra time and attention it takes to master these skills, we price our dedicated Advanced Therapy sessions a bit higher than our flagship services. The difference is when you have an Advanced Therapy session, the therapist is using that specialized skillset for the duration of your massage, which you wouldn’t have access to if they hadn’t invested that time and expense already. In a Therapeutic service, the therapist uses of a blend of their skills to address pain sources and they may or may not be using those extra advanced modalities during the session. When our clients come to our clinic, they are usually experiencing quite a bit of pain and discomfort due to various muscle imbalances, trigger points, adhesions, and other issues going on in the body. We usually “ramp up” our clients by recommending massage therapy at least once per week for the first few weeks to give us enough time to work all of those long standing issues out of the body, and then we work to titrate our clients down to a biweekly and then once monthly maintenance schedule for massage therapy. We want you to eventually only come see us because you WANT to, not because your pain makes you feel like you HAVE to. The speed at which we can titrate you down depends on your frequency of massage in the initial stages of treatment, as well as your adherence to recommendations for self care at home given to you by your therapist.

Many new graduates of massage therapy are stuck working for corporate franchise brands because other spas/clinics won’t hire them until they have several years of experience.
